Last night I read Predator at the Chessboard 2.10-2.13: knight forks. I also did 170 CTS tactical problems. My rating went up 51 points! I'm past "hoping" a tactic will work. I know it will work. I calculate it.
If you can solve a tactic in:
1-3 seconds, you "see" the tactic (pattern recognition).
4-9 seconds, you "understand" the tactic but have to calculate it.
10+ seconds, you don't fully grasp the tactic.
