Games, 8/14/06

Comments welcome. :)

Win: likesforests(1786P)-prinion(1773)

1. c4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. e4 e6 4. g3 Nf6 5. Bg2 Be7 6. d3 a6 7. h3 O-O 8. Nf3 Rb8 9. e5 Ne8 10. h4 Nc7 11. O-O b5 12. Ng5 bxc4 13. Nxh7 Kxh7 14. Qh5+ Kg8 15. Be4 f5 16. Bxc6 dxc6 17. Bg5 cxd3 18. Rad1 c4 19. g4 Bxg5 20. hxg5 Nd5 21. g6 Nf6 22. exf6 Rxf6 23. g5 1-0

Opening: I was out-of-book after 1.c4 c5. I should play 2. Nf3, 3.Nc3 next time. Tactics: I missed the moves 15...f5 (double move) and 16.exf6 (en passant), losing a piece, but I then launched a wild, unsound attack to score the point.

Win: likesforests(1786P)-cooljnm(1641)

1. c4 d5 2. cxd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qc5 4. d4 Qf5 5. e4 Qd7 6. Nf3 Nc6 7. Bb5 1-0

Opening: For Black, this is a poor Scandinavian. I gained so many tempos attacking Black's queen that he resigned on turn 7.

Loss: gingerbreadman(1816)-likesforests(1786P)

1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Bf4 e6 4. e3 c5 5. c3 cxd4 6. exd4 Bd6 7. Ne5 O-O 8. Nd2 a6 9. Bd3 Nbd7 10. Nxf7 Rxf7 11. Bxd6 Qb6 12. Ba3 Nf8 13. O-O Bd7 14. f4 Qc6 15. Nf3 Qa4 16. Ne5 Qxd1 17. Raxd1 b5 18. Nxf7 Kxf7 19. f5 a5 20. fxe6+ Nxe6 21. Bd6 Ra6 22. Ba3 Rb6 23. b3 b4 24. Bb2 Kg8 25. c4 dxc4 26. Bxc4 Ne4 27. Rfe1 Nc3 28. Bxc3 bxc3 29. Rc1 Kf8 30. Rxc3 Nxd4 31. Rd3 Bb5 32. Rxd4 Bxc4 33. Opening: Way out of my book. 5..Nc6 would have been slightly better than cxd5. Middlegame: Strategy: I should have eliminated the e5 knight and counter-attacked in the center while White's king was exposed. Tactics: I didn't see the knight hopping down towards my cramped rook until it was too late.

Loss: ReverendJay(1671)-likesforests(1653P)

1. e4 d5 2. h3 dxe4 3. Bc4 Nc6 4. Nc3 b6 5. a3 Bb7 6. Nxe4 Ne5 7. Bb5+ c6 8. Be2 Qd5 9. d3 c5 10. Nf3 h6 11. Bf4 Nxf3+ 12. Bxf3 Qd7 13. O-O Bxe4 14. Bxe4 Rd8 15. Qf3 Rc8 16. Bb7 Rd8 17. Bc6 Nf6 18. Opening: Like a charm, had an early lead. Strategy: Should have finished developing before over-reaching on a counter-attack, this was my fatal blunder. Tactics: Excellent. A Queen down, I was able to win a piece for nothing. I also had several (successfully avoided) shots at winning the game. Endgame: K+N+2P vs K+Q+5P was lost before it began!

Win: likesforests(1556P)-carperci(1557)

1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 g6 3. e4 d6 4. g3 Bg7 5. Bg2 c6 6. d3 O-O 7. Nf3 Nbd7 8. a3 Ng4 9. h3 Ngf6 10. b4 a6 11. Bb2 Rb8 12. g4 Qc7 13. Qd2 Rd8 14. O-O-O b5 15. g5 Nh5 16. Nh4 bxc4 17. Bf3 cxd3 18. Bxh5 gxh5 19. Nf5 Bf8 20. Nh6+ Bxh6 21. gxh6 Ne5 22. Rdg1+ Kh8 23. Qg5 Ng6 24. f4 f6 25. Qxh5 Nxf4 26. Qf7 Ne6 27. Rg3 Rf8 28. Qh5 Bb7 29. Rhg1 Rg8 30. Qf7 Rxg3 31. Rxg3 Qc8 32. Rg7 Qg8 33. Rxg8+ Rxg8 34. Qxe6 Re8 35. Qf7 Rg8 36. Qxe7 Rg6 37. Qf8+ Rg8 38. Qxf6+ 1-0

Tactics: On turn 23, I missed a discovered attack that would have won a queen. On turn 26, I missed a mating attack. On turn 38, I find mate and win!

Win: zlicka(1464)-likesforests(1636P)

1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 4. Bc4 Nf6 5. h3 g6 6. Nf3 Bg7 7. O-O O-O 8. d3 b6 9. Nd4 Ng4 10. hxg4 Bxd4 11. Be3 Bxc3 12. bxc3 Qxc3 13. Bh6 Rd8 14. g5 Ba6 15. Bb3 Nc6 16. Qf3 Ne5 17. Qf4 Bc8 18. Rae1 Be6 19. Qxe5 Qxe5 20. Rxe5 Bxb3 21. axb3 Rd6 22. Rfe1 Re8 23. Rxe7 Rxe7 24. Rxe7 Re6 25. Rxc7 a5 26. Rc8+ Re8 27. Rxe8# 1-0

Strategy: Letting White post his bishop on h3 was a huge mistake, and not worth the pawn I snatched. As soon as it got there, I should have moved my knight to exchange. Tactics: Missed 17...Qd4, which would have prevented any loss of material. Held off the mate as long as possible.

Win: RooZMan(1028P)-likesforests(1538P)

1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 Qa5 5. Bc4 Bg4 6. O-O e6 7. Re1 Bd6 8. d4 O-O 9. Bg5 Nbd7 10. Bxf6 Nxf6 11. Ng5 Bxd1 12. Raxd1 Qxg5 13. Ne4 Nxe4 14. Rxe4 Qh5 15. h3 Qxd1+ 16. Re1 Qxe1+ 17. Bf1 c5 18. dxc5 Bxc5 19. a3 Qxf2+ 20. Kh1 Qxf1+ 21. Kh2 Bd6+ 22. g3 Qf2+ 23. Kh1 Bxg3 24. b4 Qh2# 0-1

OTactics: On turn 9, missed a removal of the guard tactic which would have won a piece. On turn 20, missed Qf1#.
