Games, 8/16/06

Last night I read Predator at the Chessboard sections 2.1.1 - 2.1.6: knight forks.I also did 77 CTS tactical problems. I refuse to make simple blunders! My opponents will have to earn their points.

Loss: likesforests(1412P)-filco(1769)

1. c4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. g3 O-O 6. Bg2 e5 7. d3 Nc6 8. Be3 Ng4 9. Nd5 Nxe3 10. Nxe3 f5 11. Nd2 Nd4 12. exf5 gxf5 13. Nf3 f4 14. Nxd4 fxe3 15. Bd5+ Kh8 16. Bxb7 exf2+ 17. 14.Nxd4 and my follow-ups were overly-optimistic. Before one plays a move, one must calculate his opponent's best response.

Next time I will meet 1.d4 with a serious reply, 1...d5 and the Slav or Semi-Slav. I fell behind in development, but cleverly forced a draw.

Allowing 6...Bxc3 7.bxc3 was a good plan. Black helped me open the b-file for my queenside attack! My attack was weak, but after he hung two pawns I closed in for the kill. Next time, remember:

"In Chess, the pawns go first."
